What we are about:

Geata Arts was founded in 2017 and is a core-group of artists, designers and creatives who organise, facilitate and host community art projects and festivals in Clonakilty and West Cork.

“Samhain 17” was the first project organised by Geata Arts in association with the Clonakilty Arts Centre.

It saw a week long festival celebrating Samhain, the ancient Celtic Halloween, in Clonakilty, Co. Cork.

The festival was such a huge success, that Geata Arts decided to run it as an annual event. Now in its third year, the Clonakilty Samhain festival is a week long festival with a vast program of music, gigs, talks, shows, theatre and performances all celebrating and showcasing Irish mythology, traditions and stories. The highlight of each festival is a spectacular street parade and after show with over 200 performing artists in the most incredible costumes and props. The parade has a different theme each year, exploring different aspects of the mythology and legends around Samhain.

The parade is curated and Geata Arts as well as many volunteers, artists and creatives spend months preparing and making storyboards, costumes, props and floats, scores and music, to bring the most spectacular street parade alive. The parade also has a Pooka section, inviting anyone who would like to join the parade in their own costumes and interpretation of the theme.

Samhain19 will run from Tuesday, 29th of October until Sunday, 3rd of November in different venues and places in Clonakilty, Co. Cork.

With the exception of the Acoustic Candlelight gigs, all events are free and open to anyone interested. The full program and schedule of events will be announced and published end of September.
